It All Matters to Jesus

Learning to be patient matters to Jesus.

Having a good attitude while you’re waiting matters to Jesus.

Having patience with other people matters to Jesus.

Letting God teach you while you’re waiting on an answer to prayer matters to Jesus.

Learning to trust God while you wait matters to Jesus.

Peace Out

What are some of the things you fight most about with your siblings? I have two big brothers who used to sit on me when I tried to get the remote for the TV, and my sister and I fought over toys and clothes and who got to ride in the front seat of the car. I bet those kinds of fights with siblings are still pretty common today. Can you relate? Or maybe you sometimes fight with your friends over choosing what movie to watch or what game to play or activity to do. Or with your parents over chores or getting your homework done on time.

Here’s a verse that talks about what causes fights:

Why do you fight and argue with each other? Isn’t it because you are full of selfish desires that fight to control your body?

JAMES 4:1 CEV

We are all full of selfish desires, and when we let them control us, then we usually end up in conflict with someone because eventually our selfish desire is going to clash with someone else’s selfish desire.

For example, if there’s one last chocolate chip cookie (or whatever treat you like best) sitting on a plate on the counter and you and your brother both reach for it at the same moment … suddenly you’re shoving and yelling and wrestling and mad—all because of a cookie.

Or a selfish desire can clash with the rules and get you into conflict—like if you know it’s your turn to let the dog out and feed him, but you just don’t want to pause the movie you’re watching to take care of him, so then the dog pees all over your sister’s shoes and now your sister looks ready to pull all your hair out.

Or a selfish desire can clash with the requirements and get you into conflict—like if you blow off your history assignment because you just don’t feel like doing it and you get an F and now your parents and teacher are less than thrilled with you and you’re grounded and you’re mad.

You get the idea.

Fighting is usually caused by people being selfish—and I know, I know, it’s not always your fault or your selfishness that causes a fight. Sometimes the fights come to you. But whether you start conflict or not, you can always ask Jesus to help you finish it, because peace matters to Jesus.

Peace is a fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22), meaning it’s something others can see in our lives when we’ve asked Jesus to be our Savior and have the Holy Spirit living in us. The Bible also says about peace:

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

ROMANS 12:18 ESV

Turn away from evil and do good.
