VINCENT
If Lily wasn't so gorgeous, he might have been able to grumble and grouch in a way that was much more convincing.
He could normally get men, bigger and taller than he was, to back away with a narrow-eyed stare or a deep-chested growl.
He just couldn't manage to do any of that around Lily.
Not that he wanted her to stay away.
He'd done a good job of keeping her at arm's length until that morning.
And now she had her arm around him.
"I don't think I need a chair."
Vincent saw the way her eyes widened at his words and her lips parted on a breath.
He liked that look on her.
Soft, pliant, delicious.
With her arm still around his back, he turned and put his back to the kitchen counter and that drew her closer to him.
"I think we can handle it like this."
She blinked up at him. "You do, huh?"
"Yeah."
She reached past him and he heard the soft click of the take-out container opening.
"If you want, we can use the table." As much fun as it was to have her leaning against him, he didn't want to make things awkward for her.
She laughed and rolled her eyes as she leaned back. She was holding a fork with a bite of meat and veg on the tines. "I've never fed a guy before, but I think I can handle it."
"I like being your first."
He watched the way his words affected her.
The cool perfection of her skin heated pink across her cheeks and when he opened his mouth, she bit into her bottom lip.
She focused on putting the fork between his lips, her blush darkening as she accomplished the task.
He closed his lips over the fork and as she pulled it back, he started to chew.
Smiling to herself, Lily reached past him and took her own bite of the meal.
He liked the way she looked and the way she moved.
He loved the way she smelled and the way her movements relaxed as they continued to eat together.
After a few minutes he decided it was time to ask and answer a few questions as they continued.
"I'm not making you uncomfortable, am I?"
She shook her head and offered him another bite.
He shook his head and she took the bite herself. That left him free to talk for a bit. "I want you to know that I don't do this kind of thing."
She paused with the fork in her hand and swallowed her bite. "Invite a woman home to feed you?" She shook her head. "Well, I did invite myself along, so that's all on me."
"I'm talking about holding you. Trying my best to flirt with you even though I have no practice. Probably no skill at all. I just want you to know that if I hadn't ended up in the Emergency Room today, Lily, things would have changed between us."
She reached past him and he heard her set down the fork. When she leaned back to look at him, her gaze was steady. "Changed how?"
"Changed in that I'm done hiding how I feel about you.
