6.Weller, Information History, pp. 11 ff. gives a thorough description of this fusion.

8.J. Aho and D. Davis (2001), ‘Whither Library History? A Critical Essay on Black’s Model for the Future of Library History with some Additional Options’, Library History, 17, pp. 21–37 is in this respect symptomatic of the correlation of information history with the history of the computer.

9.For a discussion of this academic legitimacy see T. Weller and J. Haider (2007), ‘Where Do We Go From Here? An Opinion on the Future of LIS as an Academic Discipline’, Aslib Proceedings, 59 (4/5), pp. 475–82.

10.The project is titled ‘Genres and Rhetoric in the Communication of Information 1800–1925: The Communication of Information in Broadside Ballads, Almanacs and the Illustrated News’. Besides the three main participants, Dr Trine Schreiber, Dr Jack Andersen and Dr Laura Skouvig (all at the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Copenhagen), the project anticipated participation to some degree from Dr Toni Weller (De Montfort University, Leicester, UK) and Professor Charles Bazerman (University of California, Santa Barbara, USA). The project application was sent to the Research Committee of the Danish Ministry of Culture in June 2009. Though the application was rejected in September 2009 it is the intention to work in more detail on the project in order to present a refined project application in 2010.
