A. C. Mukerji, “Absolute Consciousness” (1938)

Anukul Chandra Mukerji (1888–1968) succeeded R. D. Ranade as Professor of Philosophy at Allahabad. He was a scholar of Western and Indian philosophy and specialized in epistemology, with a special interest in idealism and the problem of self-knowledge. He published two books during his life: The Nature of Self (1933), and Self Thought and Reality (1938). The present essay, a chapter of The Nature of Self, deploys the insights of British neo-Hegelians, such as Caird and Greene, to gain insight into Śankara’s account of absolute consciousness.
