CHAPTER FIVE

Fireworks break through the night's air, launching four-dimensional colors into the sky. Reality still hadn’t set in that I was here with Randall, thirty-six hours away from home.

“They say this is the most magical place in the world.” His husky yet low tone keeps this personal. “Many claim dreams and wishes come true out here. So, I’m hoping this is facts, and maybe we can settle whatever beef this is we got going.”

Disney World wasn’t exactly what I expected when Randall carried me from my home like a sack of potatoes. He walked into my closet when the girls left, packing the essentials needed for this impromptu trip. May I add, he did a hell of a good job? Randall had me questioning how often he was flying girls out before our relationship. His knack in Womenology101 alone would earn him a 4.0 GPA.

“We’re not beefing, Randall.” I cling even tighter around him, staring into dreamy eyes that begged for answers. I pause before continuing as I listen to the sound of hooves pounding against the cobblestone pavement. “Our relationship has added depth to my life in the best way possible. You came in when I had no clue of the sudden changes that would come my way.” In detail, I explained to him the value he’s added. Something I never thought a man could do.

My parents were great examples of what it’s like to be married. Their love and support alone carried weight. What they couldn’t do was change my experiences with past exes. After countless tries, I was usually left with disappointment from cheating, insecurities, or those who felt superior because of their financial gains. Even the men I dated outside of the entertainment industry were not much different. What caught my attention is their need to feel I owe them something due to my wealth. Or wanting access to those around me for further advancement.

I took a break instead of allowing my past relationships to leave a bitter taste in my mouth. I allowed myself time to grow and learn about Sariyah-Nicole. The good, the bad, the ugly - What I liked and disliked. I would be by myself until a man found value in me, one who felt the need to protect me no matter what. One that would be able to handle ‘the for better or worse’ after we exchange our love vows.

In an instant, my words became louder, more audible. Everything around me turns mute. Even the clanking of the horse's shoe stands frozen in place.

“I appreciate the heartfelt message, Sariyah. I really do. But this doesn’t ease the anxiety bothering me. If shit was so good in our relationship, then we would be together.” He disconnects our misting palms when the coachman opens the door to let us out.

Randall remained quiet after our descent from our two-hour carriage ride. Despite our circumstances, he made sure to make this forty-eight-hour trip magical, just like the theme intended. Upon arrival, Minnie and Mickey Mouse greeted us.
