How in the fuck did I let that slip? I hadn’t bought her a ring, but I had been thinking about the shit for the past week. Storm thought the shit was quite amusing. Whenever I spoke to him about Chasity, I’d call her my wife. That shit was a slip of the tongue, for real. I was embarrassed as hell. However, when Chas walked back to me and hugged me tightly, she said in my ear, “I’ll be your wife whenever you’re ready.”

I couldn’t contain myself when I lifted her from her feet and held her tightly to me. “I love you, Chasity. Thank you for getting me out of that awkward-ass situation.”

“I love you, too, Jasper. Ain’t shit was awkward about it. That lets me know you’ve been calling me your wife behind my back.”

I twisted my lips to the side and said, “Aight, whatever. Let’s go look at this thing.”

“You are so spoiling me.”

“Get used to it.”

We walked over to the Escalade, and when Chasity slid into the driver seat, she wiggled her ass in the seat as she screamed. I was so happy that she was happy. This day had to be as perfect as she was. She deserved that from me. She deserved my love and eternal devotion, and I planned to give her all that plus some. My daddy put his arm around me as I stood, watching Chas have a fit. “You’ve made me proud with how you love this woman. You did good, son.”

“Thanks, Pops. That means a lot coming from you.”

He patted my back and walked off as Chasity looked through the Escalade. When she finally got out, she ran to my arms again. “Damn. How can you love and trust me so much? This is all overwhelming, baby.”

“You earned my trust, Chas, in a very short amount of time. This is me showing you my appreciation for being trustworthy and loving me through my stubbornness, not to mention your patience with me. My goal now is to just make you happy. Now, come on. Let’s go get this party cranked up.”

She smiled at me, then followed me back to the barn. J. Paul, Jr. and the Zydeco Nubreedz were packing up and the DJ was setting up. When Z-Ro’s “OG” started blasting through the speakers, that was all she wrote. Chas threw her hand in the air and started rocking. Tiffany, Shana and Kortlynn joined her while Aspen laughed at them. She had been on her feet most of the day, and her body was telling her so. I walked over to the fellas while Storm smirked at me. Before he could say a word, I said, “Shut the fuck up.”

“Nigga, I thought we had missed something,” Zay said.

“Naw. You next. Two weeks, and that woman gon’ be all yours.”

“Shiiiid, she already all mine. Y’all coming to the rodeo next weekend?”

“We gon’ try. It’s in Liberty, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Aight. If I get out that shop at a reasonable time, then me and Chasity gon’ roll through.
