Later that day, my children arrived with my father and we decided to have a family dinner. The macaroni and cheese was a sensation and the bottle of wine that Jen had gone out to buy, allowed the adults, to toast to the new projects.

My father was happy with the good news and my children couldn’t have supported me more though, among themselves, they had begun to make a list of the things in which each one would do to help me at home.

Sam took his seat at the table. I was still the only one who could see him. He remained silent throughout the evening, leaning on the table, with an expression satisfaction and joy, despite having a halo of nostalgia around his eyes as he watched us all take charge of the immediate future.

Claire and Jason cleared the table and washed the dishes. Afterwards they went to their rooms to do homework and go to bed.

Jen decided to go home to take care of some pending things and go to bed early seeing as the next day, with the diet desserts project, she had many accounts to create. Plus she had scheduled herself to work part of the day in her florist's shop.

My father and I poured ourselves another glass of wine and sat in the living room to talk. We had a pending conversation, his new date. With so many things on my mind and with so much good news I had every time I saw him, I had completely forgotten to ask him how he was doing with his new friend.

“I’m happy honey that everything is going wonderfully.” He conveyed sitting next to me.

“Dad, me too. I’m scared seeing as I have never run a business before and maybe I'll get stuck at some point.”

“That can happen to anyone, Holly,” he confirmed. “Every beginning is difficult and more, if you have never done what you are about to do. However, I’m convinced when you do what you love, nothing can go wrong because you are doing things with pleasure, love and passion. There are very few fortunate people who can make a living doing what they love. If you are presented with the opportunity, go for it. It’s better to make mistakes than to have the eternal doubt of what would have happened if you had tried.”

“That’s true” my father always spoke the right words at the right time and always encouraged me to go after what I wanted. Since I was very small he supported me. If something went wrong, he would sit next to me to analyze where I had failed and then, he encouraged me to try again.

I saw it in the eyes.

“I want to apologize. With so many things that have happened to me, I have been a bit selfish and I forgot to ask you how your new friend is. Or should I call her your girlfriend?”

We both smile and my father blushed.

“Oh darling, love is serious. Josephine is my new friend’s name.
