Cara was up bright and early the next morning, ready to go meet the Texas Ranger. She dressed and went downstairs to help Mrs. Walker with breakfast. She'd done that on several occasions when she woke early and enjoyed working with her. They'd had some nice conversations while cooking.

"You're up early," Mrs. Walker said when she entered the kitchen with a big smile. "You wouldn't be eager to spend the day with Milt now, would you, or is it because you'll be picking up a new dress?"

"A little of both," she admitted, "but mostly because I get to spend the day with Milt."

"You two are becoming close, and I'm glad to see it. He's a good man, and you two make a lovely couple."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, he's a very handsome man and you're a lovely lady, but it's more than that. It's obvious you both have feelings for each other. That's easy to see when your eyes meet. But again, it's more than that. I've seen the two of you when you leave together in the morning, and again when you're walking home in the evening. There's a natural happiness about you. Some people feel a need to act a certain way to impress the other, but neither of you do that. You're just yourselves. Some people feel they need to keep a conversation going all the time. You two don't. If you have something to talk about, you do, but you're happy to just enjoy being next to each other, too, without the need for a forced conversation."

Cara put down the plates she was carrying to the table and turned to look at her landlady. She thought for several moments before responding, "Thank you. I hadn't thought about it, but you're right. I always knew I felt very comfortable with Milt and felt we could talk about anything, but I hadn't thought of it like that. That's what it is, why I'm drawn to him so much more than I have been with any other man. I hadn't been able to put my finger on it before, but I think you just did. I do feel very relaxed around him, not like I have to watch my P's and Q's, or be careful what I say."

Mrs. Walker was smiling and nodding. "He feels the same way around you. I can see that, and it's been wonderful to watch you two. It isn't often I get to witness two young people meet and have an instant attraction. I truly hope this turns into something permanent. True love is rare, but if you should be lucky enough to find it, embrace it. Don't let it go."

"Thank you, Mrs. Walker," Cara said as she went to her and gave her a hug. "You've given me something to think about, shed some new light on that wonderful man I've come to care about a great deal already."

"Those feelings are returned, I'm certain. I can see it. Now, let's finish up breakfast so you can go spend the day with him.
