He Lied To Me

Yetta

It had been a week since I last spoke to Cody. I didn’t have anything to say to him after what I found out. He still called and texted me, thinking that would mean anything to me. I was big on trust and couldn’t trust him after what I found out. He wanted me to stop talking to Noah, but he was still talking and dealing with his crackhead baby mama. He wanted me to be all about him when he wasn’t about me. It was all good, though. Although I missed him, going back wasn’t an option. I wouldn’t be a fool for no man. No matter how good his loving was.

Today I was getting together with LeLee. I missed my friend, and she hadn’t heard me tell her the whole story since she had been working and sleeping. I was getting dressed to go to her apartment since her ass wanted me to bring a burger from Bobo’s. I didn’t want to go there since I had a feeling, I’d be running into Cody. I didn’t want to. I was doing a good job of avoiding him and wanted to keep it that way.

After I was dressed in a black turtleneck sweater with blue jeans, I was heading out of the door. On my porch was a vase of flowers and a salad dish with a note attached to it. With my mouth widened, I plucked the note from the salad bag and read it.

I know you don’t believe me, but I am sorry for the way things went down at my house. I hope you find it in yo’ heart to forgive me. If you give me another chance, I promise I won’t fuck up again. Honestly, I’m missin’ the hell out of you right now and wishin’ you were here wit’ me. May I have a second chance?

I didn’t know what to say or do after reading that note. I hadn’t expected it at all. The flowers looked so pretty, and the salad was my favorite kind—grilled chicken. No matter how much I wanted to cave and give in, I wouldn’t. I’d be a damn fool if I did. I wasn’t hard up for a man and didn’t need one. Damn sure not one who was lying to me since we were in a relationship. I could do without that in my life.

“Now girl, tell me what happened again from the beginnin’,” LeLee said with a mouthful of burger.

We were sitting in her kitchen eating our food. The salad Cody got for me looked so damn good. Plus, he got Italian and Ranch dressing for it. He knew what I liked when it came to salad. I gave her a rundown of what happened between Cody’s baby mama and me. Plus, the fact that Cody lied to me.

“Hmm, he wrong as hell for lyin’ to you like that but I think you should give him another chance.”

I gawked at her. “You are out yo’ damn mind.
