Chapter Six

Mason and his brother lunged forward to catch their mate before she hit the ground. He checked her pulse, which was strong, before growling at Avra who was still with them via Raz’s body.

“What have you done to our mate?” he demanded.

“Rose will sleep through her change as Raz did when her abilities manifested. She’ll wake rested, healthier and stronger than before,” Avra replied, as if having his mate fall unconscious was only a minor detail. “Nothing is a minor detail when our peoples’ lives are on the line. By having your mate sleep through this she will feel no discomfort,” Avra clarified and Mason knew she was in his mind, but he wasn’t backing down.

“Maybe a little heads up would have helped. Then our mate wouldn’t have even risked being hurt.”

Avra’s eyes flashed but he sensed no anger. “I believe the two of you will do well protecting Rose and fighting by her side.”

“I’d die before allowing her to be hurt,” Riker asserted as he gathered their mate into his arms and stood.

After a few moments of tense silence, Avra smiled and said, “I believe you. Take care of one another, we’ll be watching over you.” A clap of thunder filled the sky as Avra’s glowing eyes faded until Raz’s green eyes were all that remained.

Those in attendance stood and rushed out of Mason and Riker’s way. They had to get their mate back to their suite and check her over for injuries.

Brother, our mate is the reincarnated Goddess Thorne. Mason could feel the wonder in Riker.

Right, but there will be another war. Mason had to make sure everyone kept their eyes on that one fact. He looked down at his sleeping mate, and her delicate beauty, plus knowing full well she could wipe the floor with anybody, made him smile. His love would be able to protect herself in many different ways. Now to convince her that she wasn’t a threat to either of them or the clan.
