Unfortunately, Mina hadn’t paid much attention to the sign on the door when they’d come to eat earlier.

“There’s no one around back.” Kent trotted up to where she stood. “I guess they close down between lunch and dinner.”

“Not exactly.”

“What do you mean?”

She pointed to the sign with the arm that wasn’t hurting. “They only open when a ship is in port.”

“But we are in port.”

“Yes, but the ship leaves at five. All aboard is four. So no point in staying open now.”

He sighed as understanding dawned. “No dinner guests.”

“Apparently this isn’t a local’s hangout.”

Once again he tried his phone.

“I gather from that frown still no signal?”

“No signal.” He stuffed the phone back in his shirt pocket. “As much as I hate to say it, looks like we’re walking back and hopefully someone will come by to give us a ride the rest of the way.”

Since the only cars they’d seen since coming down from the hilltop view were the two idiots who had run them off the road, she wasn’t holding her breath on this one. She just wished their phones worked.

“Are you feeling okay?”

“Fine, thank you.” There was no point in mentioning that the pain in her wrist had begun to radiate up her arm.

“Then why are you frowning?”

“Am I?”

He nodded.

“I guess I was thinking about what happens if we miss the ship. My sisters are going to be worried as all get out.”

“There’s still hope that somebody will drive by. After all, this is not exactly a deserted island.”

“No, but if our little restaurant is any example, we do seem to be on the lesser inhabited side of the island. Not to mention, more than a short walking distance to the boat.”

Now Kent was the one frowning. “I certainly wouldn’t mind letting all the air out of those two idiots’ tires.”

“I was thinking something more appropriate like throwing their car keys into the ocean might make me feel better.” Though right now she’d settle for a couple of ibuprofen to stop the throbbing in her elbow.

“I might find that satisfying if we could throw the car in along with the keys.”

A cross between a snort and a chuckle escaped her lips.

“You should do that more often.” Kent smiled at her.

“What, snort like a pig with a cold?”

His grin broadened. “Laugh.”

Her baby sister was one to tell her that often. Of course with each added child, the rules of the Ummarino family had become more lax so that the baby of the family had grown up more spoiled then she or Ginnie had. Thankfully, she grew up into a nice person and a friend who took life a bit less seriously then Mina did.

“You’re frowning. Thinking of your sisters again?”

She nodded. “Jo was such a spoiled little thing. We’re the typical family. First born has all the rules and regulations. No dating till sixteen. No makeup till high school, and even then with great reluctance. No cell phones, tablets, and restricted TV time. With Ginnie, most of the rules
