CHAPTER 10

“I really appreciate you guys coming to help me decorate,” Holly said as she unlocked the rec room at the church. She’d met Wade and Levi in the parking lot of the church, so they could help her decorate the room.

Originally, she’d planned on doing it all herself, but then she thought better of it. It would be boring to do it all alone, but if she had some company the time would pass a lot faster, plus she’d get a lot more done.

“I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it all myself.” She pushed the door open and Wade held it for her as she walked inside.

“You know I’m always up for decorating,” Levi grinned. “I love a good party, so I can’t help but think that decorating for one would be fun too.”

“And you know I’ll help you, no matter what,” Wade said as he took her hand. His thumb landed on her promise ring, and he wiggled it a little to remind her it was there. She felt a blush rise in her cheeks.

“I know,” she said while she flipped on the lights. She set down the bags that held the streamers and decorations. She’d brought everything else in earlier in the day and this was the last of it. “I still need to get the deli trays out of my car, but if you two can start lining the tables up in two rows with one at the front, we can get started.”

Levi and Wade nodded and started to work as she returned to her car. On the way over she’d stopped to pick up the food, knowing there was a kitchen area with a refrigerator. She’d already spoken to Brigid about getting the cake tomorrow. Her plan was to have everything already set up and then Brigid just had to unlock the room, bring in the cake and let in the guests who were set to show up at 5:30.

Meanwhile, Holly would keep Fiona preoccupied at work until Abra came in for her shift that evening. Abra only had to work a couple of hours, so she’d be able to come to the party later, but she was okay with that. Someone needed to handle the store and not tip Fiona off. Abra had been happy to do it and made Holly promise to record the whole thing for her so she could see Fiona’s face when she walked through the door.

When Holly returned with the last of the trays, she was glad to see that Wade and Levi had set up the tables exactly where she wanted them. The room was already starting to take shape.

“Now what do you want us to do?” Levi asked.

Holly began to open the bags of decorations they’d carried in and started laying it all out on the tables. “Let’s do the tablecloths first,” she decided as she looked at everything. “They need to be on the tables before anything else can go on them, so we should probably start there.
