The man in question turned toward Brad, chuckling. “Dude, chill. I bumped her when I was about to stand up. I was apologizing. I’m paying for my drink and going home to my mate. I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with life as a single wolf anymore.” He threw some cash onto the counter before offering Jayla some advice.

“Good luck, darlin’. Don’t be too hard on him. When I was young, my wolf wanted to tear apart any guy looking in the direction of my girl. He’ll outgrow it. Just be patient.”

He disappeared into the crowd, and Brad took his unoccupied stool before any other wolves became brave and tried to sit next to her.

“Are you stalking me?”

“Sorry to burst your bubble, Jayla, but I was here first.”

“Fine. I’m leaving anyway.”

He reached out for her arm. “Where are you going?”

“To a different bar.”

“No, you’re not. You’re coming home with me.”

“I don’t want to be around you.”

“Well, too goddamn bad.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you. I’m on a mission tonight. I’m getting you out of my system once and for all.”

A wolf she’d made eye contact with when she first walked in squeezed in on her opposite side. The come-on was blatant.

Brad jumped up and reached around Jayla to grab the shifter by the scruff of his neck.
