Garrett was frustrated. How could some things in his life go perfectly and the rest be a pile of crap? The last month with Egypt had been fantastic. When she wasn’t at the restaurant, they were together—whether he took a ride share to her place or she drove to the farm. They’d even had dinner with Kent and his wife, Aurora. Having a love for the kitchen, the two women got on fabulously while he and Kent shared a beer.

He learned Egypt was a daddy’s girl and incredibly close to the man who had single-handedly raised her after her mother’s death. He also discovered she had a love of all things chocolate and had a terrible singing voice after they went to a karaoke bar late on Saturday night. Garrett, meanwhile, realized he hated baseball after Kent took him to a game, but loved basketball and wasn’t a fan of beans after Egypt made a taco night with all the fixings.

They were getting to know each other, and when Garrett was with Egypt, he forgot about everything else. He thought his hunger for her might abate after the newness wore off, but it hadn’t. Whenever they were together, his hands were all over silky brown skin. He liked everything about her, from the scent of her skin to her lush curves and to her sense of humor. And she was his equal in passion.

He thought about the way she’d straddled his thighs this morning and lowered herself onto his length. He’d gritted his teeth and beads of sweat had popped out on his brow when she slowly began to circle her hips. The sight of her cupping her breasts as she moved against him made Garrett hard just thinking about it. She’d writhed against him, her muscles tugging and taking him over the edge. His entire world smashed apart, and white-hot pleasure gripped him. Egypt was a potent aphrodisiac he would never tire of. However, there were times he sensed trepidation in Egypt. Was there something in her past that was making her hold back from giving herself entirely to him and he didn’t mean just physically. Had someone hurt her in the past? He wanted to know everything about her and he knew that was pot calling the kettle black when he had no memory of his former life.

But on the other front, he was tired of coming up empty on his identity. He’d taken the detective’s advice and gone through every box in his grandfather’s office and house, but he hadn’t found a single item, a birth certificate or Social Security card he could use to help him. And that was puzzling. If his grandfather had gained custody of him after his parents’ deaths, wouldn’t he have kept some record of it?

His memories of the farm were real. Garrett hadn’t made up the moments of helping his grandfather find a stray cow that had gotten away or fixing a fence on the farm or Cyrus taking him shooting for the first time.
