Takinâ It to the Streets
New Yorkâs most notorious gossip DJ broke the exclusive story about Kennedy and Riaâs confrontation at the party live from her morning show. She even touched on the rumors that suggested there was a beef between Chaz and Hassan.
Adding fuel to the fire, Hassan recorded a freestyle rap that was filled with thinly veiled subliminal messages towards Chaz. Chaz retaliated with a no-holds-barred rap of his own. And voilà , a new hip-hop beef was born.
Kennedy was sick of it all. She wanted to run to that back room in Big Maâs house and hide. But this was the profession sheâd chosen and she was slowly beginning to learn to handle it. When reporters posed questions about the escalating beef between Chaz and Hassan, or about her and Chazâs relationship, she respectfully refused to comment.
At the end of the week Kennedy needed a stress reliever. This time her remedy of choice was shopping, and she took her niece Jazz and Jazzâs best friend, Candace, with her. Jazz was used to her aunt splurging on her, but it was new to Candace.
Kennedy knew that Candaceâs mother was single and that she worked two jobs to support the child. Candace didnât get a lot of extra clothes and trinkets. Kennedy was more than happy to spoil her because she was a good kid, respectful and not too grown for her age. She even bought a special gift for Candaceâs mother.
Kennedy spent five thousand dollars on the girls that day. They capped off the evening with dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Day was turning to night when Kennedy parked in front of her building. She told the girls, âYâall can spend the night with me. We can order some movies or something.â
âOkay, Auntie, Iâll go see if my mother wants to come over,â Jazz said enthusiastically.
After several trips from the car to the stoop, the girls emptied it of their shopping bags, and went into the house. Kennedy was retrieving one last bag from the trunk when she heard someone call her name. She closed the trunk and turned to see who it was. She saw Ria coming toward her screaming, âTalk that shit now, bitch.â
Noticing the two girls walking a few steps behind Ria, Kennedy was sure that they were there to jump her. Aware as she was of the rules of street fighting, she knew she had to grab just one of them. She dropped her bags and swung her heavy purse forcefully with her right hand, knocking Ria to the ground. Kennedy jumped on top of Ria. She used her left hand to pin her down by her neck, then pounded her face with hard punches from her right fist. Ria couldnât swing back because she was too busy trying to get Kennedyâs hand off her neck. Riaâs two friends, Nee and Chula, were delivering hard blows to Kennedyâs body, trying to get her off of Ria.
Jazz and Candace came out of Kennedyâs house to see where she was only to witness the action unfolding.
