“What time is it?” Troy forced his eyes to open one more time. Time had passed. That much he knew, but how much, he didn’t know. “Where are we?”

“Going on four and not far from Waco,” Hunter answered, turning the radio off. “There’s nothing but country out here. I am regretting giving up my Sirius account.”

“Use your phone. Or are you one of those people without a Pandora account?” Troy rubbed his eyes, his elbow bumping Hunter’s. God, he could smell him, they were so close. “This car is too small, I’m getting buggy.”

An interstate sign came up, listing the exits ahead. “With this traffic, we’re still a couple of hours out of Austin. And it will be dark soon. Want to call it a day and find someplace to stay for the night?”

“It’s a couple of hours more. I can make it.” Troy checked his water bottle and drained the last drop. “Need a piss stop though.”

Hunter sighed and hit the turn signal. He moved over to the right lane into slower traffic. “I don’t need to go to Austin. And we spent all day yesterday in the car. I think… no… we’re getting off. For the night. I’m tired. And I want a sit-down meal… And two beds.”

Troy yawned and stretched as far as he could, the seat back as far as it would go and he was still cramped.

“Troy? Is that okay with you?” Hunter said when he didn’t comment.

“I thought you made the decision. But yeah, sounds good. Pull off at a fast food place, not a coffee shop. I want a Coke, and a bathroom, and a pool. I need to work the kinks out. And you should trade this in on a real car. Or an SUV. Something with legroom.”

“I’m not trading in my car. Took me a long time to get what I wanted. I’m sorry you’re cramped, but you should have thought about that when you kidnapped me.”

“I didn’t kidnap you.” Troy snapped. “How many times are we going to drag that out to chew on? You left willingly. And… might I remind you… you left. In Fort Walton. You didn’t have to come back for me. You could be home now… bitching about something else to someone else.”

Troy glanced at his traveling companion to find him smirking. His eyes were hidden behind a pair of expensive sunglasses so he couldn’t see what Hunter was thinking. But that was definitely a smirk on his face. “Asshole,” Troy muttered.

“You’re awake now, though,” Hunter said, a grin replacing the smirk.

“Yeah. I guess. Still, a dick thing to do.” Troy pulled his right arm up behind his head to stretch. Then did his left trying hard not to elbow Hunter. Elbowed him anyway. “I’m sorry. You know that. I am. I fucked everything up, royally.”

Hunter sighed again and turned on the signal again. “There’s a What-A-Burger this exit. I’m getting off. I suddenly want a cheeseburger.”

“I thought you wanted a sit-down meal?” Troy wouldn't argue about food.
