Nevertheless, Pound had to overcome numerous obstacles, pitfalls, disputes, and challenges over the years. For example, his tireless fight against doping led to criticism, legal proceedings and threats of reprisals by some of the people and organizations he named, including Lance Armstrong (since 2004), the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and the National Hockey League (NHL) and its players (Zinser 2006). In addition, his role in investigating IOC members during the Salt Lake City scandal may have been a factor in his failed bid for the IOC’s presidency in 2001.
