Eliza waited until she was in the office the next morning to mention Minnieâs land to her father. He was immediately intrigued.
âShe owns that entire block? Thatâs so close to our new project. Iâd love to get my hands on that land. Youâre sure itâs all available?â
Eliza nodded. âYes, she said sheâs ready to see about selling it. Sheâs owned it for a number of years.â
âCould you draft a letter to her today asking for a meeting? Iâd like to talk to her before she speaks with anyone else.â
âIâll get the letter out today.â Eliza was pleased that her father seemed excited about the property. It made sense to her that more buildings in that area would be of interest to him. She loved sitting in their meetings and was soaking up so much information just by taking notes, which she typed up and gave to her father each week for his records.
Later that morning, during their weekly planning meeting with the rest of the team, her father mentioned the property.
âIâve learned that there might be a full block available almost next to our existing project. I am going to be aggressive about trying to acquire this property. Iâm sure you all realize the potential there?â
Everyone around the table nodded. Richard frowned. âIâve asked after that property once a year and thereâs never been interest in selling. It was just a few months ago when I last inquired. How did you hear that it was available?â
Elizaâs father looked her way and smiled. âEliza brought it to my attention.â
âEliza did? Really?â Richard sounded incredulous at the very thought of it.
Her father chuckled. âSheâs friends with the owner, Minnie Green.â
Richard looked confused. âMinnie is the owner? I assumed it was her husband, Ted. Thatâs who Iâve addressed all my inquiries to.â
âPerhaps the properties are under his name?â Her father suggested.
âI believe she said that they are,â Eliza interjected and smiled. âBut they are Minnieâs and she happened to mention that she is considering selling, so of course I thought there might be interest hereâgiven the proximity to the other project.â
Her father beamed at her with pride while Richard still looked confused and annoyed.
âMinnie has the say on selling those properties? Is that what you are saying?â He asked.
âYes, that is correct,â Eliza confirmed.
âWeâre getting a letter off today asking for a meeting to discuss. Hopefully, weâll come to an agreement on price and move forward to acquire the land,â her father said.
The rest of the morning went by quickly. Eliza typed up her notes and handled all the correspondence, including a letter to Minnie.
âI can actually give this to Minnie personally if you like? Iâll be seeing her this afternoon,â Eliza said as she readied to leave for the day.
âIf you could, Iâd appreciate it. The sooner the better. And thank you again for bringing this to my attention. Iâm so pleased that you are taking to the business and realized how valuable that particular address could be for us.â
Eliza smiled. âIâm enjoying it.
