Halifax II W7676 TL-P of 35 Squadron, which was lost with Sergeant D. A. V. John and his crew (all KIA) on the night of 28/29 August 1942 when it was hit by flak and crashed into the Westerschelde off Koewacht in Zeeland, Holland on the operation to Nürnburg. Of the 159 aircraft despatched, 23 (including 2 Halifaxes and 14 Wellingtons) were lost. Bombing was very accurate, crews having been ordered to bomb from as low as possible as Pathfinder aircraft marked the target with target indicators (adapted from 250 lb bomb casings), for the first time.
