Mi Yuanzhang, Zhao Buzhi, Tang Shuya, Xiao Pengbo, and Zhang Deqi exclusively studied ink flowering plum, but only Yang Buzhi originated a new method. Xu Yugong, Zhao Zigu, Wang Yuanzhang, Wu Zhonggui, Tang Zhongzheng, and Shi Renji continued this method. Renji once said, “After forty years of practice, now I master the method.” Besides them, Mao Ruyuan, Ding Yetang, Zhou Mi, Shen Xuepo, Zhao Tianze, and Xie Youzhi are known by their names [for flowering plum paintings], but they painted few flowers and avoided abundant flowers. Painting ten thousand flowering plums began with Wang Yuanzhang and has prevailed in recent days by Qian Zhuoshi, Tong Ershu, and Luo Liangfeng. My flowering plum painting stands between Tong Ershu and Luo Liangfeng, and that has now become my method.40
