Mia

Meet me at The Lucky Clover as soon as you finish work!

What happened, Mia, what did Beau have to say?

You wouldn’t believe me, and I need drinks in me like NOW. Speak soon.

I wander around aimlessly for the next hour or so through Main Street. Not really looking at the shops but just lost in my own thoughts. I eventually end up at the bar inside The Lucky Clover, which is pretty empty. This pub is pretty popular with the locals; it’s on the main street and has plenty of parking with a cab line outside the front. The twin bars are on opposite sides of the room with mirrors behind them. The local bands play on the stage in the corner. Near the corner where the dance floor is, there are booths lined up on the other side with high tables in the middle. Two booths are full and a few people are seated at the bar.

Walking straight up to the bar, I order two tequilas straight up. Yes, that’s right, with what Beau just asked for, my brain needs the tequila haze. I down the first drink. As I lift the second one to my mouth I feel someone inching close to me.

“Now, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes,” I hear to my left making me turn around.

“Those are some nice jeans, do you think I could get in them?” he says, grabbing my ass.

“Uh no,” I say, jumping back. “Does that really work to pick up girls, ’cause seriously you need to rethink your game plan.”

“Come on, babe, we could have so much fun, you just need to loosen up.”

“I think the lady said no, John, walk away. Now, what can I get you?” the barman says as John walks away. “Sorry about that, John is harmless, I promise.”

I down the second tequila, order a bottle of sauvignon blanc and head to a table, pouring Ella and me a glass. She arrives ten minutes later as I’m pouring myself a second glass.

“Hey, my best friend.” I stand and give her a hug.

“Mia, how long have you been here?”

“Not that long,” I slur slightly.

“Right. Mia, what happened to make you want to come out and drink on a weeknight?”

“Nope.” I shake my head. “I’ve had tequila and now wine and now my brain is nice and fuzzy where it should be,” I tell her. I pass her the menu. “Let’s order some food.”

She grabs the menu from me looking at me like I’m nuts but lets it go for now. The Lucky Clover offers food until the band starts, so we take advantage and order a few entrées to share. At the last minute, Ella orders some garlic bread to come out before the entrees. I think she’s trying to sober me up. I’ll show her.

“Can I also get a tequila sunrise with that, please.”

Ella looks at me disapprovingly. I stick my tongue out at her making her laugh.

“All right, Mia, tell me what happened earlier with Mr.
