CHAPTER SEVEN

EVE

“Eve,” Dracon whispers, waking me up. Just in the few seconds it’s taken to cross the Tower, I’ve drifted off, pleasantly comfortable in his arms with him still knotted inside me.

I guess a girl could get used to this.

When I lift my head and look around, I realize we’re entering Dracon’s trophy room, ironically the first place we’d met and where he keeps his priceless and magical collectibles. I had expected him to take us to my room, not his, and I’m not quite sure what his motives are for bringing me here.

Instantly, I feel vulnerable. Even though he’s the one carrying me inside his most personal space, it still feels like I don’t belong, like I’m sneaking inside.

He doesn’t seem to notice my discomfort and heads straight for the bathroom. “No matter how pissed you are at me, or what you think we’re planning, I have claimed you as mine. As ours. I’ll give you everything you want, even what you don’t know you need yet, but you will be mine.”

I almost laugh at his admission, but a crazy part of me doesn’t want to fight. I want to hold onto the idea that these men want me for me, that maybe for once I won’t be all alone in this world.

So, I only nod and shut down my thoughts. This possessive King carries me into the massive standing shower and turns on the hot water. Everything is dark tiles and glass in here, with enough room for Cassius and Knox to join us if they wanted to. The idea has my core buzzing again.

When the ten different jets begin to spray us with pressurized warm water, Dracon moves us to the seating bench so that I can sit on his lap in our connected position. He picks up a loofa from a nearby rack and bar of soap and starts lathering it up.

I rest my head in the curve of his neck, my eyes already drifting closed.

I don’t know the exact moment the change happened between us, but I want to believe Dracon wants to protect me. I can’t take on Aris and Franco alone.

The Kings of Eden are my best chance of survival. But I’m losing myself to them, too, and I don’t know what scares me more.

As Dracon sweeps the soapy loofa over my back and down my arms, he begins to hum a song I don’t recognize. He seems lost in his thoughts, and I wonder if he even knows he’s doing it. As his throat vibrates against my cheek with his sorrowful tune, I’m reminded how much I still don’t know about this man. About any of these men, really.

“Um, Dracon?” I start, my tone low.

“Hm?” He continues to rub my skin in small circles.

“How old are you?”

His hand pauses. “Why are you asking?”

“Because I want to know.” I pull back so that I can look at him fully. “I know nothing about you.”

“Yes, you do,” he counters.

“No, I don’t. Not really.”

His brow creases in confusion.
