Seeds of hope

True to his word, every night for the next weeks he went to her. At times, just to leave his chambers and feel the north wind greet him when he opened the door to her drawing room he felt himself stiffen knowing the sweet womanhood was waiting for him, the fetching slender figure of the woman eager.

One day, as he returned from a long ride with Ben through his fields, he craved the bosom of the woman he loved even though it was still light outside. Maybe she could be persuaded to receive him; he thought salivating and hearing her son ask for her.

‘I’ve been told she is indisposed, sir.’ Mrs. Reynolds said as the footman collected their hats, gloves, and crops.

Darcy was immediately concerned. ‘Since when?’

‘She didn’t come down for breakfast today.’

‘Why haven’t you sent me a messenger?’ He raised his voice not bothering to hide his ire.

Mrs. Reynolds winced. ‘Her maid was just at the kitchen fetching warm compresses.’

Ben’s shoulders sagged and he nodded. ‘No use, Darce.’ He patted the older man's shoulder. When they climbed the steps to clean up after the hard ride, he sighed. ‘Lizzy won’t want to hear about the rotating crops now. Or visit any other mansions you said may want to sell tapestries…’ He mumbled. ‘She will want to be left alone.’

Darcy frowned deeply. ‘I shall send for the apothecary right away.’

He shook his head. ‘Monthly illness.’

Darcy raised his brows. ‘Does she suffer much?’

He nodded pouting like a child, eyes downcast. ‘Shall we have tea in your den? I’d love to see the books on the crops you told me about.’

Darcy nodded, but before that, he would check on his love.
