“Now that everyone is present, let's get started!”

Melissa Borodin, the magazine's events manager, is at the front of the conference room, her arms clutching a thick black folder of papers over her chest.

I cross my legs in my seat and lean in her direction. In sight, at the far end of the table, is Desmond. He was one of the last people to walk into the meeting today. When he arrived, he made no eye contact with me. He's done little with me, including talk much. Come to think of it, we haven't exchanged more than a few words following the day he had to leave work early for what he claimed was a family emergency.

"As you all may know," Melissa starts, "we are coming up on our fifth year anniversary next weekend and this year the party will be bigger than ever."

Melissa is the magazine's events manager who has planned great soirées for the magazine since its inception five years ago. She started as a PR intern, then made her way up to coordinator, and now she is calling the shots as our sole events manager. And she is a damn good one at that. The magazine is small, so our PR team is even smaller. But what we lacked in quantity, we more than made up for in quality. Our events have received major press coverage every year and are one of the hottest tickets in town. I'm sure this year will be no different.

"Our guest list is growing by the day with a few confirmed attendees," Melissa announces. "I expect more confirmations before end of day."

"Who all gon' be there?" I ask which garners a few chuckles around the room. Even Desmond gives in to a little smirk.

"Well, we already know Corey and your cousin Amir will be there."

"Predictably," I mumble.

"But I've already received confirmation from Bryant Greene, Jolie Hart, and Pryce Williams, who is attending with his wife."

I straighten my back in my seat at the mention of Pryce's name. "Pryce confirmed?"

"Oh yes," Melissa replies, adding a nod. "He was one of the first to RSVP."

I try to calm my elation but I'm beyond happy after hearing this good news.

"Hmph," I add, "I'm surprised he had time to respond considering the basketball season is about to start and all."

Melissa shrugs and moves along with the details concerning the party.

The thought of being in the same room as Pryce again makes my heart patter with glee and lips twitch at the corners with a smile. I know it's foolish to have any expectations about him showing up, but I can't help looking forward to seeing him.

"We haven't established a dress code," Melissa informs. "Dana and I thought it would be a little offensive to instruct people on how they should dress for the event. But it is an anniversary event, so we're trusting that everyone gets the gist and dresses their best, including everyone here."

I'm mentally combing through my wardrobe, tallying up the outfits I'll pick through for the event.
