I spy Ms Branberry at the front of our class group, holding Leonard and Harry apart as they go at it again in another flappy hand fight. The other teachers are either in among the crowd, trying to break up arguments, or standing at the top of the hall looking shocked.

I carefully weave my way through the chaos to where my class are sitting and hear Mr Tulley’s voice, this time coming through a megaphone.

“Everybody, settle down. NOW!!!!!”

It works … a bit. The room settles slightly. I spot Neena, sitting in between Football Tiff and Pop Star Murray. They seem to be bickering and Neena is trying to calm them down. As soon as Neena spots me, she looks relieved.

“What’s happening?” I ask.

“Everyone’s switched personalities. It’s a mess,” she says. “And Tiffany and Murray keep arguing.”

“About what?” I’ve never heard my friends argue about anything before. They sometimes tease each other but never seriously.

Tiffany overhears me and turns round, her face sour. “Murray keeps humming and dancing around. It’s sooooo annoying.” She shoots Murray a hard stare over my shoulder. “I cannot believe I was ever friends with him.”

Murray immediately leans forwards and starts singing loudly. “Mmmmmm la la laaaaa, you’re just jealous because I’m so good at singing!” he belts, extremely off-key.

Tiffany grabs her football and attempts to throw it at Murray but accidentally hits me in the face instead.

“Ow!” I yelp, rubbing my nose.

“Your head was in my way,” Tiff says bluntly.

“Tiffany, Murray, you two are friends, remember?” Neena pleads. “Best friends.”

But Tiffany just turns back round in a huff.

“I could never be friends with someone who doesn’t appreciate the arts,” Murray snaps and turns up the collar of his snazzy jacket to hide his face.
