“Ow!” I cried. “Dudley, cut it out!”

CHAPTER 6

Dog Food Battlefield

Dudley acted like he couldn’t hear a word I said.

“Hey, you,” I said over the loud PINGS of dog food. “I know when someone pretends not to hear directions. I do it to my mom all the time. So listen up. Cut that out!”

Well, he kept right on shooting dog food all over the room.

I leaped over and tried to tug Dudley away from the bag. But he was big and heavy, and I couldn’t move him.

“Alfreeda!” I yelled.

She appeared in a hot second. She took one look at me, Brianne, and the mess, and said, “Mom is going to be SO mad.”

“Don’t just stand there,” I said. “Help me get Dudley to his pen!”

“Okay, okay,” she said. “But we better help Brianne first!”

Brianne shook her head. “I’m fine, kiddo. Help your brother. I’m just catching my breath over here.”

Alfreeda dived into action. Together we tried to drag Drooling Dudley away from the bag. He rode it like a surfboard across the room, cutting wakes in the sea of dog food.

“Let’s try to lift him,” I suggested.
