In Design view, the element is just a placeholder for either a table cell (for an HTML data file) or XML element (for an XML data file)—Dreamweaver surrounds its name with braces, like this: {employee} (see Figure 14-28). The program also adds a blue background to the placeholder so you can easily identify it as a special Spry element. When you view the page in a web browser, Dreamweaver replaces the placeholder with data from the HTML or XML file—like “Frank Jones.”

Figure 14-28. In Dreamweaver’s Design view, a Spry Data Set page isn’t much to look at. Dreamweaver surrounds the data element names with braces and a blue background. In this case, {name}, {thumb}, {large}, {school}, {graduation_date}, {hobbies}, and {description} represent data that Dreamweaver will insert from the data file. This page shows a master/detail layout (see page 628). The left-hand block (the one with {name} and {thumb}) is actually a repeating region (see below) that will list a name and display a small picture for every record in the data file. The right-hand area is a detail region that will display detailed information about a single record.
