Chapter Fourteen

Tinseltown Trappings

In most other professions, the idea of working with a spouse would be the stuff of nightmares. But not so for some of our favorite dolls and dreamboats! It must especially make newlywed life easier, being able to do things like ride to and from work together… And when your partner-in-crime is an actual movie star, can you really blame a gal for lingering in a car, getting up to all kinds of scandalous antics?

For the second time in as many days, Nick found himself pacing around his dressing room like some kind of caged animal with energy to spare. Today’s energy felt different, though. While he wanted very much to go find Lois again, he wasn’t sure it would do anything to alleviate the tension this time.

He was fairly certain it would end with both of them reduced to a pile of ash.

But if it feels anything like it did last night, would that really be such a bad thing?

Nick flopped down on his couch and groaned. For someone who had gotten almost no sleep the night before, he wished exhaustion would catch up with him already. Shouldn’t he be tired, dammit?

After Lois had gone upstairs last night, Nick stood in the kitchen for much longer than it had taken to wash the wine glasses. He’d offered to take them in the first place because the thought of going up to his room, listening to the sounds of her getting ready for bed across the hall, was just too much to bear.

He’d want to be in there with her, and there was no way that was a good idea.

Not that it wouldn’t feel good.

If that kiss was any indication, it would feel a hell of a lot better than good.

He leapt to his feet and began pacing again. He wasn’t an early riser, but he’d actually been grateful for the early call this morning. He’d spent most of the night tossing and turning, unable to turn off his mind—or his cock, for that matter—and finally drifted off for maybe an hour. During which he, of course, dreamt of Lois. He’d woken with barely enough time to spare, which had saved them from having an awkward conversation over breakfast.

He was filming some pretty strenuous physical comedy today, and Nick threw himself into it with more gusto than usual. As wonderful as it was to have somewhere to put his energy, though, the restlessness rushed back in the minute they yelled “cut.”

So here he was, pacing again. And no closer to having even a small clue what to do next.

A knock on the door startled him.

“Ready for you on the set, Mr. Bradley,” an assistant called out.

Nick could’ve hugged the man for saving him from thinking himself into more of a corner.

But his mind didn’t exactly quiet down on his way back to the set.

A knee-jerk part of him thought he should apologize to Lois—the part of him that had been conditioned over and over by his mother to always be a gentleman, to keep his promises, treat women with respect.
