I need a stiff drink after that meeting. I heard some disturbing things, and my brain automatically went into ways to fix the situation. Sergei’s daughter has gone missing, and he assumes it was us. It makes no sense to take her given the relationship we have developed with Sergei and the Bratva.

Tensions are high to say the least. Pouring a shot from behind the bar I look at my girl, behaving herself in the corner. Something was different about her and I couldn’t place my finger on it. She quickly looked up from her phone, made eye contact with someone and put her head back down even quicker.

Following the general direction in which she was looking, I saw Hawk sitting at the end of the bar facing her. He wouldn’t take his eyes off her. To say this bothers me was the understatement of the century.

After the shot, I place the bottle back in the well hard. I grab two beers and walk around to sit with my girl. On the way over I bump shoulders with Hawk.

“Eyes and hands off, Hawk. She’s spoken for.”

“Relaaax… I’m just admiring the scenery. I never noticed how pretty she is.”

“Well, quit noticin’, ya hear me?”

“Someone’s boxers are in a bunch.”

Moving closer to Hawk I say what I said next, to emphasize my point.

“Considering this club’s history, your greedy ways and everything she’s already been through, you’re damn right they are.”

“I get it, Hammer. You made your fucking point. I’m out. Catch ya later.”

I swear to fuck that man is becoming a hard pill to swallow. That single altercation made up my mind. I would not take over as Prez. If he became Prez, I would fight my way out. I would not stand by and watch him ruin something I worked too hard to preserve.

As I walk toward my girl, whose nose was in her phone, she noticeably relaxes when Hawk leaves the building. There is definitely something wrong, but what?
