The song was met by silence as Elyus beamed around at his audience. For one moment he looked firmly in my direction, his eyes saying something far more meaningful than I could interpret. Not knowing quite what to make of the song, the Nalii waited and Elyus instantly began a gentler melody, more of a lullaby.

"Liiara?" Taygen called timidly. "I don't mean to be, um, don't take this wrongly, but you don't look as if you're feeling well."

He was right on the mark. I hadn't noticed, but I was clammy and cold, shaking slightly where I stood, nausea crawling horridly through my body. His hand settled on my back in concern as he started to say something else, and though he was gentle, the throbbing from my bruises made me flinch, wobbling where I stood.

"Wha—?" he started to say, but stopped and frowned at where his hand had been. His next words were slow and careful. "You were beaten."

Almost indiscernibly, I nodded. "It's nothing to worry over." My voice was more convincing than my body's signals, but he bought it anyway. Or, at least, swallowed whatever he had wanted to say. Walking away wasn't quite as easy as it had been to walk there. Since when did my feet decide to be carved from iron? Taygen followed slightly behind, probably expecting me to collapse any moment.

Which, as I tried to take another step forward, is exactly what I did.
