“She is our soulmate or some shit,” I clarify. “All our beasts want her and need her.”

“Does your father even know about this connection?” Asher’s mom asks.

“No! And we aren’t planning to tell him.” I reply, leaning forward and emitting an intimidating aura to make it clear they shouldn’t cross me.

“Dane, I think your dad should be informed,” River’s father chimes in.

I lean back in my chair, giving a wicked grin and lacing my fingers behind my head. “Like I already said, we’re not telling him. And neither are you lot, because if he finds out before the competition and we choose her, then dear old dad will find out that you killed her parents and tried to murder her three times while she was in academia.”

I won’t sugarcoat it: these idiots are gasping for air like a bunch of pathetic fish out of water. They’re frigging terrified because they know I’ve got their sorry asses in a vice.

“Get out of here and leave us to deal with the shit you dumped on us. We must figure out how to clean up your mess.” I sneer, cutting them off.

They file out of the room as I collapse onto my chair. What do we do now? How can I make Indigo want to stay and give us a chance when she discovers the truth? My beast wants her, but it may not be enough.

I get up, pacing around, trying to think of a way out of this, but nothing comes to me. Nothing that will make Indigo see we are different than our family, who wants her gone. How can I show her we love her and want her? That despite what they did to her, she can trust us?

My brothers watched me pace the room as I tried to figure out the best way to tell her. If I told her before the competition, she would flee before we even had a chance to explain. But if we wait until after we win the match and claim her, she will be forever tied to us and will never forgive us for the deceit.

“Can’t you just use compulsion to make her forgive us?” River asks Cedar.

He shook his head, knowing that wasn’t an option. “No, I can’t manipulate and influence someone that deeply without consequences,” Cedar replied gravely. “She deserves honesty and full disclosure.”

Asher stepped forward; his brow furrowed in thought. “Maybe if we were honest with her, she could forgive us?” He suggested tentatively. “We tell her we only found out recently and were children. It’s not like we could have done anything.”

“She forgave Prudence for her indiscretion. So I’m confident she will forgive us.” River says.

I sighed heavily, knowing he was right but that it would be nothing more than wishful thinking. “We should tell her before the competition,” I finally said. “That way, she has time to process it all without feeling trapped or obligated to stay with us.”

They looked relieved by my decision, but nervous, heavy silence descended around us again as we wondered if there was any way she would choose to stay with us.
