VALERIE

When I arrive at the concert venue, Steve lets me in. He studies me carefully, looking me over from head to toe.

I blush. I’m sure he can see on my face what Max and I just did. Not to mention the fact that I’m not wearing any panties. Luckily, my pencil skirt hits just below my knees, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be aware of the fact that I’m bare underneath it for the rest of the day. Which I’m sure was exactly Max’s intention.

I don’t think I’ve ever spent a day without wearing panties before. It’s an automatic thing for me to put a pair on every day, and I’ve never had a boyfriend ask me not to wear any before. I know some people like going commando, but I’ve never thought of being one of them.

And yet I have to admit that I find it exciting that Max made me do it today. I’d have loved nothing more than to go back to the hotel right now and to live out all my wild fantasies from last night with him. But I can’t let myself be distracted by him.

Once Steve has let me in, I walk down the narrow corridor to the press room near common room and sigh with relief when I see Jonathan isn’t here yet. It gives me some time to get myself together and prepare for the interview with a clear head.

I’m just getting my laptop ready when Jonathan comes in. He has a grim expression on his face. It’s clear he’d rather be anywhere else, which makes me wonder what his experience with other journalists has been.

“Where do you want me?” he asks, heaving out a resigned sigh.

When I arch an eyebrow at him, he cracks up laughs and runs a hand through his dark hair.

“Fuck. Sorry. That came out wrong. Where do you want me to sit?”

“You can sit wherever you feel most comfortable. The sofa, the chair…”

“Then I choose the sofa,” he says without hesitation.

“Make yourself comfortable,” I say warmly. “All I have to do is open the right program and get my questions, and then I’m ready for you. Do you mind if I record our conversation? It’s easier for me to write the article later if I don’t have to try writing down everything you say.”

He pauses for a second, but then he shrugs and moves toward the sofa. “Okay, no problem.”

I wait for Jonathan to sit down, put the recording device on the table, and face him when I’m done. “Ready?”

He grabs at his hair again and something that looks a lot like uncertainty swimming in his eyes when they meet mine. “Yep. The sooner you start, the faster this will be over.”

“You don’t have to answer anything you don’t want to, Jonathan,” I say honestly, giving him a soft smile that I hope will reassure him. “I’ve collected the top three questions from our readers for you. Do you want to start with those?”

“Okay,” he says, but his voice is filled with trepidation.
