They sat together, cuddling together, laughing at some of the acting and recognizing a few of the outdated phrases, outfits, or items on the show that aired on television long ago. As he went to top off their glasses of wine in-between episodes, she hesitated and smiled apologetically.

“It’s getting late, and I am going to have to go. I work tomorrow and I need to be okay driving home.”

“You could stay and relax here with me a little while longer,” he offered quietly.

“I don’t think so.”

“You know I would never hurt you or wrong you.”

“This is the second date,” she said in a flustered manner – but only because the offer to stay longer was so very tempting right now.

Cuddling at his side, enjoying every moment, safe, and feeling almost languid in contentment… it was hard to distance herself from him, when all she wanted to do was close her eyes and fall asleep in his arms. It didn’t matter if it was the couch or what number date this was – just being there, at his side, felt better than anything she could have imagined.

“Yes.”

“Then if you aren’t ready – the kiss can wait another evening.”

She stood there, hesitating and unsure what to say, because she knew he was tossing those words out there to see if she would ‘bite’ and reeling back to give her space if she needed it.

“I’m interested,” she whispered, meeting his eyes, “but I guess I’m still trying to see what this is between us – and where it fits into what I thought a relationship was supposed to be. None of it makes sense in my brain, and I guess that is what’s throwing me off so much.”

“What do you mean?”

“Aren’t relationships supposed to have… arguing?” she asked hesitantly. “I mean, it’s just strange to me because we haven’t fought yet, and I remember my parents fighting when I was younger. Even the guys I dated in high school – I ended up fighting or
