Setting Out the Crèche

Setting out a crèche is a wonderful opportunity to tell the story of the birth of Jesus in stages. Consider setting out the empty manger and animals at the beginning of Advent and setting Mary and Joseph on a journey throughout the house as they make their way to Bethlehem. This prayer is appropriate at the beginning their journey.

Mary and Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, the same town where King David was born. —based on Luke 2:4–5

God of dreamers and hope,

as we prepare for the coming of Jesus,

we ask for your blessings.

Give us grace to make room

in our hearts to welcome Jesus

as we make our journey

with Mary and Joseph

toward Christmas morning. Amen.
