Chapter 6

Liam: Do you have plans for Thanksgiving?

Gunnar: No. Since Mom died, I usually just go to the gym.

Liam: It’s Bree’s turn to cook. Would you like to join us?

Gunnar: Yes, but I don’t want to intrude.

Liam: You’d better. Bree might find you if you don’t accept.

Gunnar: What about you?

Liam: She already knows where to find me.

Gunnar: You know what I meant.

Liam: Yeah, I already know where to find you. I suggest you accept gracefully.

Gunnar: Anything, if it means seeing you.

Liam: Now that’s what I call gracefully.

*

Gunnar: Since we’re always together—thank God—we should get a Christmas tree together.

Liam: Real or fake?

Gunnar: Whatever you’d like. I’ve never had one and have no preference.

Liam: Never?

Gunnar: Never.

Liam: We’ll remedy that tomorrow.

*

Gunnar: I hate that you’re working. It’s Valentine’s Day.

Liam: We cater to the lonely.

Gunnar: I’m lonely.

Liam: Then come see me. There’s no reason you can’t visit me at work.

Gunnar: No thanks. It’s nothing against what you do, but I don’t want to watch while other men drool over you all night.

Liam: They might drool over me, but you’re the only who gets to drool on me.

Gunnar: True. You can tie a ribbon around your dick when you get home, and I’ll take you up on that offer.

Liam: Deal.

*

Liam: How did your fight go?

Gunnar: Fine. I won. Afterward was a nightmare.

Liam: You always win. You’re you. What happened afterward?

Gunnar: There’s some huge sports convention happening in the hotel where I’m staying. Someone recognized me, and I almost didn’t make it back to the room with my skin intact.

Liam: It’s tough being famous.

Gunnar: Whatever.

Liam: Ha. Miss you.

Gunnar: Miss you too, baby.

*

Gunnar: I see you gave my number to your sister.

Liam: Yeah. She wants you to help her plan my not-surprise birthday party.

Gunnar: She’s not exactly subtle, is she?

Liam: Nope, but she’s mine.

Gunnar: Are you sure? I think your parents should check.

Liam: LOL!

Gunnar: I hope you really laughed. You know I love your family. So, what do you want for your birthday? I want your surprise party to be perfect.

Liam: Just you.

Gunnar: You already have me.

Liam: Good, then it’ll be the best birthday in history.

*

Seven months of being with Gunnar went beyond description. Every day, Liam waited with bated breath, wondering if it would hold. As much as he’d like to believe his break with Kaz hadn’t screwed him up a little, Liam realized it had. Several times, he’d caught himself staring at Gunnar, wondering. Were they the fighter and the stripper? Liam knew he couldn’t do this job forever. One day, he’d be something else. But for now, anyone he dated would be forced to accept him like this. With Gunnar, every day it became a harder pill to swallow. Did Gunnar want him to quit? Maybe Liam was slowly destroying the best thing that ever happened to him and he didn’t even realize it. Each day, Liam fell a little more for Gunnar. It was scary as hell how easily they’d slipped into always being together. The idea of losing Gunnar was twice as terrifying as anything he’d ever dealt with before.
