Chapter 14

Abaku had been in an unusually good mood for the past couple of days. So good, in fact, that no matter what Sienna asked, he was game. She found his behavior strange, but she let it go and enjoyed the moments. He was treating her like a man who cared for his woman, and she preferred that versus the uptight, angry, and abusive man she’d known him to be.

Currently, she lay in front of the television with her feet sprawled across his lap. He rubbed her feet gently as they watched a movie on the tube. Near the ending of the movie, Abaku’s phone buzzed, and he lifted it to see who was calling. Sienna could feel the energy shift immediately. When he tapped her feet, signaling for her to move them so he could get up, she mouthed the words, “What’s wrong?”

Rather than answer, he threw up his forefinger, signaling her to give him a moment. Sienna knew better than to say a word, so she sat quietly. He didn’t say a word but rather got up and walked away. Sienna watched the back of him as he stalked down the long hallway on the way to his office. Even though she had no clue what had happened, she felt a sinking feeling in her spirit. Easing off the sofa, she quietly tiptoed down the hall.
