My sisters and I were always so occupied with our crime-filled lives, we spent so little time on our personal lives. Well, I used to be that way until I watched my partner die in the line of duty. I was twenty years old when I joined the force. I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, as the old folks said. My sisters had taught me a lot, but I wasnât prepared for the death of Lanae. For as long as I could remember, Iâd always been attracted to women. I knew I still had some attraction to men, but I started to gravitate toward women more. After my high school graduation, I went straight into the police academy without Cashelle and Techelleâs influence. I met Lanae in the academy and we became the best of friends. It wasnât until the night of our graduation that we crossed the line of being more than just friends.
We kept our relationship under wraps so we wouldnât be separated. For all the other officers knew, we were only best friends like we portrayed. In our fifth year as partners, we were chasing these fools through the woods because we got an anonymous tip that a meth lab was stationed there. With out backup, we took them all down except one. Lanae was running full force after the other and I was right behind her. She kept yelling for him to stop, but he continued to run and shoot at us. That hillbilly fired off more shots and one bullet struck Lanae in the neck. I screamed and cried for backup on our radio. I waited for help while I held Lanaeâs head in my lap and watched as she gurgled and choked on her blood.
I cried so hard and asked God why. I just couldnât believe I had met the most phenomenal person in the world, and in an instant, she was gone. This wasnât my first dance with death, but it was the death that hit home for me. I vowed that day that I wouldnât be in another relationship with a woman. Although Doll Danger was dangerously close to me breaking my vow, I only wanted the memory of Lanae. She kept me warm and safe just like Cashelle did, and her death made me boss the fuck up.
Lanae didnât die in vain, though, because my sisters had reach legally and illegally. A few months after her death, Cashelle sent out bounties to retrieve that fucking hillbilly and his whole damn family. I was into the crime life, but not as heavy as my sisters. However, when I saw his dirty blonde hair, beady green eyes, and yellow-stained teeth, taking his life and theirs was necessary.
I wasted no time deadinâ all their stupid asses. From him on down to his trailer trash ass parents and siblings. It didnât bring Lanae back, but I had closure and brought her justice. My eyes analyzed my ceiling for the umpteenth time in the last few minutes.
