“Go with the kids, when the smoke clears, I’ll come get you,” Cire instructed and Adama stared at her like she was speaking a foreign language. Like she’d lost her mind and he had no problem helping her find it.

“I’m not ten no more Cire. I’m not the babysitter no more. I been putting in work. I look young, but you ain’t that older than me sis.” Adama explained to Cire, she absorbed his words. Because he was right, she wanted to protect him like she’d been doing her entire life. Cire had left a little brother behind and came home to a little big brother. It’s been twenty-five years. She thought to herself.

“Well tell Mo to lock down the sunroom and keep the kids in the panic room, then meet me in the foyer,” Cire instructed. Adama nodded opening the attic door. They headed down the stairs then in opposite directions. The gunfire was slowing down and Cire had to make sure her son was the last one standing. She rushed to the front door opening it. Cire’s heart danced with joy as the clouded smoke hid the pandemonium behind him. Cre removed the gas mask giving Cire a small smirk.

“I came back for you.” He admitted, and his admission was like daggers to Cire’s heart. It was like lightning had sparked behind her chest and her eyes instantly glossed up. Her baby boy had come for her. Something she had failed miserably at in return. She pulled him into a hug wrapping her arms around him and Cre hesitated before he embraced her back. This was it. He was gonna end all the bloodshed and from there they would figure out how to move forward. Kalou was a dead man and Cre was only three hundred and fifty feet away from him. “Where’s Kalou?” He asked and before he could answer his gun was aimed at Adama who stood at the top of the balcony.

“You killed my mother and father,” Cre said through gritted teeth, and Cire’s heart sank. Cre was a fireball and wasn’t no telling what he was going to do.

“Your mother standing right there. I killed your father, but I saved your girl and kid. Now you tryna get at Kalou or what?” Adama answered unflinchingly. He was a quick draw and if he thought Cre was going to pull his trigger on him, he would’ve pulled his first.

Cire placed her hand over Cre’s hand placing it down. Her other hand cupped under his chin turning his head towards her. Forcing him to look at her. Cre’s rage turned him disrespectful, and disrespect wasn’t allowed in the family. It was the one thing Kalou had instilled in them. Sometimes the line between respect and fear was a little blurred. But a gun aimed at someone that was helping you win was unacceptable.

“Your beef ain’t with my brother. That ain’t never happening. We seconds away from the core of the problem. Tighten up.”

Cre had no objections. He would deal with Adama later.
