Happy Chandler, who succeeded Judge Landis, was interviewed after he left office, and said, “I don’t think [Jackson] ever did anything in connection with that scandal. It’s an injustice that ought to be corrected by the baseball people.”49 Unfortunately for Jackson, Chandler himself never acted on that belief, if indeed he had held it when he held baseball’s highest office.
