After ensuring everything was set up and ready to go at the junkyard, I headed back into the Quarter and pulled up outside her apartment just as she was leaving. I followed her to this small house on the outskirts of the Quarter, where I’ve since been sitting in my car, flipping my Zippo lighter open and closed, regretting my decision not to grab food on the way while I wait for my opportunity to strike.

It’s been hours since she parked her car and made her way inside. It’s Jesse’s home. I saw the guys greet her at the door, and now that it’s night, they can all be clearly seen sitting at a large dining table in their home through a large bay window. I watched them eat their dinner—roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans. Micah brought out a massive cherry pie for dessert, which only made my stomach growl more. Now, they’re chatting away. Laughing and smiling as they sip wine from fancy cups.

Fuck, she is stunning. Even with the rage I feel for her after what she did to my car still flowing through my veins, I can’t deny how goddamn beautiful she looks, especially when she smiles with that goddamn perfect and pure smile.

Perfect for me.

She spends hours with her friends, and I sit outside, watching and waiting. It’s boring as hell, but in the end, I know it will be worth the wait.

She’ll be worth it all.

That’s exactly why there’s no way I’m risking fucking anything up. Not tonight. I will sit in this goddamn car and die of starvation before I risk anything ruining my plans.

Finally, when it seems like she’s going to make me wait all night, she rises from the table. Jesse guides her to the door, hugging her goodbye while Micah clears the table of their dirty dishes. After a final goodbye to her friends, she makes her way out of the house and down the dimly lit street to where her car is parked.

I watch the way her ass bounces in the black skinny jeans she’s wearing as she struts down the sidewalk to her car, her hair blowing in the wind behind her. Straight today, with no sign of the usual beachy waves.

I follow her home, tailing her closely as she makes her way through the city and back into the Quarter. The drive is a blur of lights and shadows, the city alive with its usual chaos. She parks, and I park a few cars away, careful not to gain her attention. Quickly, I pull a bottle from the bag on the seat next to me. I twist off the cap and hold the rag on the opening before tipping it upside down. Sealing the bottle, I toss it back on the seat and grab my white ski mask, pulling it over my head before I climb out of the car.

Following her up to her apartment through the small courtyard, I keep my footing light, ensuring she doesn’t hear my approach.
