Brett tucked my braid into my jacket so my blonde hair wouldnât be visible once I put my helmet on. âItâs going to be a bit of a long ride,â he warned me. âAnd itâs going to suck after a couple of hours. Youâre not used to riding that long. Iâll try to stop as frequently as I can so you can stretch, but I donât want to spend too much time on the roads without protection.â
âIâll deal,â I assured him. I didnât care how uncomfortable I would be. I just wanted to be safe.
Penny handed me a pair of leather gloves. âYouâre going to want these,â she told me. âItâs going to get cold after a little while.â She drew me into an unexpected hug. My throat closed up with tears. âJust do what he says. Heâll keep you alive.â
I quickly wrapped my own arms around her. âThank you so much for everything you and your family are doing for me,â I said quietly, meaning every word.
She leaned back and grabbed my upper arms, a warm smile on her face. âYouâre family now, Olivia. Everyone here is your brother, and Iâm your sister.â A tear slid down my cheek at her words. Brettâs hand silently settled on my lower back as a silent offer of comfort and support. âAnd weâll throw a huge fucking welcome home party for you and Brett when you guys are finally safe enough to ride back home.â She drew me into another hug. âYou two need to get on the road. Be safe.â
âWe will,â I promised her. And I knew that promise wasnât a lie. Brett wouldnât allow anything to happen to me.
Brett gently turned me to face him. âYou ready?â he asked me.
I drew in a deep breath. âAs ready as Iâll ever be,â I told him honestly.
Copper drew Brett into a one-armed hug and clapped him on the back. âI know you said you donât want protection, but Logan is . . . commandeering . . . his motherâs car to give you protection for the first hour of your ride â just to make sure you guys donât get any tailers.â
Brett snorted. âI swear, that man never stops doing dumb, illegal shit.â
Copper snorted. âDonât worry about the cops, brother.â Brett rolled his eyes. âHe apparently gave his mom something to put her to sleep for a few good hours.â
I gaped at Copper. âLogan drugged his mother?!â I asked incredulously.
Brett snorted. âBabe, thereâs a lot you have to learn about Logan. Heâs a man of many illegal talents.â He pressed his hand to my lower back. âCome on. We need to go. Weâre losing darkness with every passing second.â
Copper gently squeezed my shoulder. âWe look forward to you coming back home with Brett, Olivia.â He looked at Brett. âYou two be safe. Make sure Grim lets me know when you two make it,â he ordered.
Brett nodded his head. âWill do, Prez.â He grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together, gently leading me out of the clubhouse.
