In the past few hours, I have had some time to reflect on what the hell is happening here. It has been the first moment of calm I have had since I arrived in Fjoll. I have gone from horror to horror ever since I got here. Wherever my visions are trying to lead me, I can’t imagine it’s anywhere good, but what choice to I have other than to follow my heart? I can still see the fiery storm and the ocean of corpses created by whoever that terrifying being in my visions was, but I have no idea what I have to do with that vision, or what I can do to stop it.

Loki treating me this way is certainly a shock. Despite being wary of his motives, I no longer think I am in any immediate danger. If he wanted to rape me or kill me, why would he not just do it? I know the gods like to play games with us, but I don’t sense any malevolence in him. This doesn’t mean that I feel anything but hatred for him, though. He represents everything that I hate about my world. I recognize his physical superiority and I still don’t know anything about the powers he possesses, so I am being careful. If I get the chance, I should slit his throat in a heartbeat, whether he brings me Ragnfrid or not. That’s what a smart woman would do.

The images of my family never leave my mind, and when I even catch a glimpse or hear of the presence of a god anywhere in Landesgil, I can hear them urging me to avenge them. I know that Loki was not the god who took them from me, but he is the same to me. He uses every person on this planet for his own desires, caring nothing for them. I don’t know why he is showing me kindness, but it is irrelevant. Once he has brought me Ragnfrid I will either try to take his life or escape him immediately. I don’t know where I will go, but I will need to find some clothes and food before I venture southwards. My only chance is to find somewhere outside of Landesgil.

I have, of course, heard the rumors of another kingdom in the south, but they say it is protected by some kind of magic. No one can enter there, maybe not even the gods. I can’t be the first one who has had to escape Landesgil, though. I have to believe that there is a possibility of finding somewhere far away to live peacefully, otherwise I may as well accept that I’m dead.

I hear footsteps outside again, and this time I simply open the door to confront whoever it is. To my surprise and joy, I see that it is Loki leading two horses through the barren, snowy fields towards the small stable. I immediately recognize that one of the horses is my Ragnfrid! I take
