Eleven:

In dreams, the crow flew cawing mockingly around me. Something in its sinister eyes captivated me. The rustling of the trees in the wind and the frigid unnatural summer air whipped through my hair. Darkness engulfed the horizon as the rifts began to open expanding out in all directions.

Dying light curved inward as the skies seemed to dim. Vast arrays of filthy and broken beings filled the streets of New Orleans. Vial massive lizardmen with talons and thin hooked fingers marched in columns. Spectral being swirled around in the skies above them. The reapers were fewer in numbers, but their presence personified the threats of each being under their influence.

The crow circled me, mockingly, then it flew off, landing on the shoulder of an emerging ethereal figure. Incomprehensible void-like eyes peered into me as if seeing inside my dream. I felt my heart quickening as the sense of danger encapsulated me. Horror and unbridled agony threatened to consume me like a cosmic explosive force.

Cruel cold energy infused every being, further augmenting them. His malice was manifest into the dark chains I saw linking every being to his body. Like a mass of slaves pulling their master free of a dark and dank shadowy prison.

While I’d felt the bonds between the beings previously. I’d not seen the chains visible to the naked eye before now—until this being transverse the barrier.

“What is this?”

I marveled aloud to myself, and I felt something like a rushing wind on my shoulder. I turned, and the massive figure I’d seen in my mother’s past, stood next to me. He was all power and Celtic might. His prowess was as if nothing I could properly word. No man had ever felt so vigorous or primal.

“You…father?”

I asked, my tone a bit broken by shock and circumstances. His eyes settled gently on me.

“I see ye’ve managed to invade this realm of the unknown already. Ye are ahead of projected progress for your development. Then again, blood deities are tricky beings to predict. Yer powers being so tied to many factors.”

He said, by way of greeting. Despite the girlish jitters in my chest and gut, I frowned sternly at him.

“A simple yes or no would suffice, thanks.”

He seemed surprised for a fraction of a second and the look was gone.

“You have yer mother’s untamed spirit. Clare was and forever will be, the most spectacular vampyr born of any original clan.”

His wording was strange to me.

“Yer still dodging me.”

He gave me a look and said, “Aye, I am who you think I am. Besides, yer blood sense can tell ye now.”

He said, and as if smog lifted, I felt him now. His bloodline, pure and untainted by any other. All divinity, no entangled or muddled ancestries. What I could map of him, was mysterious. He descended from unbroken lines of Celtic divinities. Beings which I couldn’t name off-hand, yet I could see how the divine blood ran backward preceding civilizations by eons unknown.

“You’re so ancient! I didn’t realize earth housed such aged beings of high intelligence.
