Three Years Earlier

“ What the hell is your problem Mia?”

“ I know! I'm so sorry Rayna. I don't know what happened. One minute I was getting ready to leave the house to meet you at the community center and the next thing I know I was waking up hours later. It's like sometimes I can't keep my eyes open. I don't know what's wrong with me.”

Rayna kept walking refusing to speak to Mia. After a few minutes of ignoring her, she decided to speak.

“ Well, you really need to get that shit together because it's rude as hell and this is like the third damn time you've pulled that shit on me. It's getting really old. I mean if you just want to hang out with Jeremiah, just say so. I'd understand but don't just stand me up and have me waiting for you like an idiot. I could have hung out with someone else.”

I felt like crap.

“ Rayna! You know I'd never leave you hanging for a guy...If it makes you feel any better...he gave me the same speech two days ago! My ass has been passing out sleep when I've had plans with him too!” I said snickering.

“ Well, your ass needs to go get a damn case Red Bull energy drinks or some shit then!” Rayna said finally breaking out into a real laugh. We continued walking to school and I finally was able to relax. I'd tried downplaying the situation in front of Rayna but honestly, I was worried. Both her and Jeremiah were complaining to me about becoming the queen of broken promises as of late. I had no idea what the hell was going on. One minute I'd be doing things around the house making plans with Rayna or Jeremiah, the next thing I knew it was four hours later and I was waking up from a deep sleep. I'll tell my mom about it. Maybe I need to go for a checkup. I mean damn, I was almost 18 and what the hell? Did I have narcolepsy now?

My cell phone alerted me of a text and I opened my purse to retrieve my phone, Rayna and I had just made it onto school grounds.
