TURNING THE COMPUTER SCREEN, I take three steps back and look at it. Hmm. It’s fine. I can read just fine from here. This way, I can check it out if someone calls us on Facebook while I dust the shelves.

Genius move.

No one ever calls us there, or in any other social media, but what if today’s the day someone finds us? What if they love us and show us to their friends?

It feels so far fetched. A fairy tale.

Edward’s steps announce his approach. My boss is hardly ever here, but this seems to be an odd week. His eyes are wide as he approaches me.

There’s a glint to his eye I have never seen. And I don’t like it. Edward’s not a bad person, being an introverted man in his fifties who wastes his time on gossip sites. The bookstore was his father’s, and he wanted it to give him easy money. It isn’t working out.

“Joanna.” He gasps and then cracks a laugh as our eyes meet. He then gives me a once over, the act making my lips curl down in disgust. “I didn’t know you were famous.”

“Famous?” I cock a brow. What is he going on about now? “Last I checked, I wasn’t...”

He ignores me, striding to stand in front of me. Edward blocks my view from the computer screen and I stop to look at whatever he’s showing me on the screen of his phone. I have to crane my neck back to read it since he shoves the phone at my face.

But I immediately regret so.
