“What a successful trip.” Summer smiled, settling the bags from Target in the back hatch before climbing in the passenger side.

“I’m so happy we found the rolling briefcase. That will make life easier going in and out of school,” I agreed.

I put the car into drive and pulled onto the road, steering the car down the long hill that led me towards the highway back to Two Harbors. The lake glistened from the sunshine and it was a beautiful day with the windows down and a gorgeous woman next to me. I was watching her out of the corner of my eye as we drove. Her hair was blowing every which way around her face and every so often she tried to tuck the strands back behind her ears. It was futile, but I loved watching how she licked her lips as she tried to control the mess that was her locks. Her sunglasses covered her magnificent eyes, but I could tell by how relaxed she was that she was enjoying herself.

I reached over and rubbed her thigh, the strings from her cutoffs tickling my fingers. Her muscles rippled under my hand. When I stopped for a red light, I let my hand slip further around her thigh, cupping the tender skin for no longer than a second before I put my hand back on the wheel. The light turned green and I should have steered my way onto the highway and headed for home, but I didn’t. I headed through Duluth to Canal Park.

She turned around and looked behind us. “I think you missed the turn.” She pointed, but I shook my head.

“I’m not going home yet. It’s a bright, sunny, not too warm day, I’m feeling good, and you’re smiling. I want to see the lake.”

She shook her head at me a little. “Um, Willow, we live on the lake.”

I laughed and picked up her hand, bringing it to my lips to kiss. “I know we do, but it never hurts to look at it from different shores, does it?”

She settled back against the headrest. “I guess not, but Canal Park is going to be crazy today. It’s a Sunday you know.”

I eased the car down the street towards the lift bridge and marveled at how many people filled such a small space. “Looks like you’re right. It’s crazy today.” I winked and she snickered as though she wanted to say, “I told you so.”

I parked across the street from the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace. She pointed forward toward the bridge. “I don’t think you want to walk that far to the beach. We should cross the bridge and park somewhere up there.”

I chuckled and patted her face. “We will, when we’re done here. I don’t stop here often, but they have the best little candy shop. Can we? Please?” I teased and she threw up her hands like an exasperated mother, but laughed at the same time.

“I’ll feed the meter. Be careful getting out on that side, people don’t pay attention down here,” she said opening her door.
