Revise, Re-Validate Your Task List Accordingly
Review, get feedback, and revise your task list and priorities regularly. Use the task list and priority validation process as an opportunity to get valuable feedback and build important relationships.

Queues, EngagING, & De-EngagING TASKS
Creating Task Queues
A task queue is simply an intelligent informational database on a task. Although I recommend these queues created and maintained mostly by hand and stored in a folder, a computer database would be fine as this could be a “searchable” database.
The process of proper task switching requires referring to and updating task queues (Sohn & Anderson, 2003). Task queues can include information such as contact lists, task schedules, priorities, key tasks, what not to do and what to do, reference information such as scope of work, specifications, risks, issues, and analyses.
Review the topics below for suggestions of topics to include and then update in your task queues.
• Task objective
• Task sponsor, clients, and owner
• Stakeholders
• Key milestones and task schedule
• Task priorities
• Activities in process
• What to do on return to task
• Risks and mitigations
• Issues and resolutions
• Time and resources required
• Tasks to be deleted, delegated, transferred, shaved
Take the time to build quality task queues and then update and maintain them during the entire task completion cycle and even after the task is complete. Why after? Know that tasks are rarely complete as you will most likely return to them or delegate the reopened task at a later time.
Engaging Tasks
Again, eliminating undisciplined task switching improves task performance. This is because undisciplined task switching can be very harmful to your brain over time. Undisciplined task switching results in the unintended effect of confusion, poor performance, physiological brain damage. A more productive and efficient way to task switch is to engage and de-engage them.
