10.3.3 Distance traveled

Walking distances of doctors and nurses were collected using pedometers. The data collection periods aligned with the four-hour observational periods. The staff members were given a pedometer at the beginning of the observational period and were instructed to wear it until later approached by a researcher. The data collected was later converted to one-hour shift durations to enable comparison with other studies.

10.3.4 Acoustic measurements

Acoustic measurements were taken throughout the entirety of the adult and pediatric treatment and waiting areas. In the treatment areas, measurements were taken every 30 minutes during each four-hour observational period. Data was collected over the course of five weeks. Acoustic measurements in the waiting areas were taken every 15 minutes during each four-hour observational period over the course of one week.
