Work was dragging today. I was tired after going out with Charlise last night, but I wasn’t going to complain. I had really enjoyed my time with her and couldn’t wait to do it again. I had no intention of sleeping with her either; it just happened. I wasn’t going to complain about that either. In just a short time, she really had me open and I didn’t know how to feel about that. Although I was trying to get to know her and find out what could become of us, I wasn’t trying to rush into things too fast. However, I’d learned a long time ago that timing was everything in my eyes.

It was funny how the universe worked at times. It was crazy that we both entered each other’s lives when we both needed a companion the most. I was going to let it all play out though and see where it led us. I know one thing, I couldn’t get her off of my mind, not since I had left her mother’s house this morning. I was really feeling her and the type of mentality she had. Even her mother liked me. Speaking of her mother, my kids loved her. She’s all they talked about on the ride home. I was happy that my kids were settling into this new town and making friends. I was worried in the beginning, but not so much now. Everyone had been so welcoming and helping when it came to us.

“Dr. Neal, I’m just checking in with you. Do you need anything?”

“No… thank you, Carla. I’ll let you know if anything changes.”

“Okay, just let me know.”

Carla was my secretary. In the last two hours, she had been in here to ask me if I needed anything multiple times. Each time, I told her no. I’m not going to lie, she was cute and all, but not my cup of tea. In my eyes, she was too flirtatious and was trying too hard. Things like that were a turn off for me. Besides, I had my eyes on somebody else. I could see now that in the near future I was going to have to see about replacing Carla if she didn’t stop her antics. I wasn’t about let anything come in between whatever it was Charlise and I were trying to build.

“Dr. Neal, are you busy?” I looked up to see Aspen walking in.

“Hey, Aspen. No, I’m not busy at all. What can I do for you?”

“I just stopped in to see how things were going so far.”

“Everything is good. I’ve been busy with a lot of paperwork this morning,” I told her.

She stared at me for a moment as if she had something to say. I waited patiently for her to tell me what was on her mind.

“Listen, I’m not trying to get up in you and Charlise’s business, but I can tell the two of you like one another. She’s been through a lot, Christopher. Please don’t hurt her.
