After an hour of confessing what Ellis and I were really going through, my sisters were adamant about giving me a full-blown makeover to lift my spirits. Miriam put the last wand curl in my hair as I examined the smoky eyes and highlighter Arian put on my golden cheeks. âI look like a completely different person.â And I felt better, too. I stood up to model the red number Arian found at the bottom of my suitcase.
âMore like snatched, honey.â
âThis used to be my freak emâ dress back in the day. Iâm surprised I can still fit it.â While admiring my reflection, I noticed Miriam was on the brink of tears. âWhatâs wrong with you?â
âIâm sorry; I donât knowâ¦Iâm just so disappointed in Ellis. I never pegged him to be a cheater.â
âI did!â Arian blurted out. âI knew he was probably stepping out; I just thought he was shooting for the same team.â She plopped down on my old bed.
âWell, people change. We had a good run, I guess.â I turned back around and exhaled, literally and figuratively. The material of the dress enhanced every part of my bodacious body - my double Ds, hips, ass, everything.
Arian tapped my backside. âYou look good, baby. Ellis who?!â Arian grabbed the air with her hand and snatched it back. I could always count on her for some comic relief. âNate is going to lose his damn mind.â
Miriam covered her mouth to prevent from gagging. âWoah! I just got really lightheaded.â Without warning, she ran into my bathroom, fell to her knees, and vomited in the toilet after missing it by an inch. I swiftly followed her inside, looking back at Arian with concern, who shrugged in return.
âWhatâs wrong, baby? Is it something you ate?â I rubbed my sisterâs baby-soft hair while holding her head to the side. Anytime my sisters were in need, my maternal instincts kicked in naturally. I took care of them like they were my own when we were growing up. Our roles had pretty much remained the same into adulthood.
âHereâs some water.â Arian threw me a half-empty bottle of Ice Mountain.
âWet that washcloth up there, will you, Arian? Drink this slowly,â I instructed.
Miriamâs face was flushed.
âWas it something you ate?â
âIâm not sure; Iâve just been feeling woozy lately.â
Arian and I exchanged glances.
âAlright, everyone!â Frankieâs voice carried down the hall. âDrop everything and head downstairs. Itâs time to eat.â She poked her head inside the bathroom door. âWhat the hellâs going on in here?â
âAt least youâve got an excuse not to eat a piece of Daddyâs dry catfish now,â I whispered as Miriam smiled and I rested my head against hers.
